POTTERY CLASSES
In this season of Thanksgiving, a prelude to holiday fanfare, we pause to celebrate the joy of togetherness while looking forward to a new year brimming with adventure and possibility.
Writing to you from wintry Wisconsin I am grateful for the rich collaboration you clay mates bring to my life. I hope your gathering was memorable (in the best sense) with a renewed spirit of connectedness amidst family and friends near and far.
After a very busy fall of travel abroad to host our first unforgettable Terracotta & Terroir workshop at Chateau Gigault, followed by long studio days in Rhode Island to complete commissions, it’s time again to invite you into an immersive creative experience for a seven week adult hand building ceramic workshop (or a six week children’s hand building ceramic workshop).
We will work from my light filled studio, Suite 111 at The Handkerchief Factory in Warren R.I. All skill levels are welcome from newbies to seasoned amateurs. The first four classes will focus on wet clay construction, pinching, coiling, slab work and draping. The last three, (two for children) on glazing and firing.
We will be working with a low-fire cone 04 Terracotta reminiscent of the colors of the Southwest, as well as a mid-fire cone 6 white stoneware, both fitting for colorful underglazes and glazes.
In surrendering to the alluring process of wet clay construction, students will be encouraged to explore their preferences and comfort levels with the various hand building techniques presented. Each individual experience and outcome will vary as students navigate this meditative process, as important as the final outcome while in community with like minded creatives.
I will be there shepherding each student to achieve their intended masterpiece.
Having worked in clay throughout my life and taught at all skill levels, be assured that you will have the support you need whether new to clay or not.
Adult Classes
Offered on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 pm, Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 12:30, or Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 pm.
The adult classes meet once per week for 7 weeks, and cost $420 for the workshop including all materials, instruction and firings. Payment is preferred in full at the beginning of the workshop. Accommodation can be made for those who would rather pay weekly. With limited slots available, responding promptly will increase your chances of securing a spot.

Children’s class

The children’s cost will be $222, a breakdown of $37 per class including all materials, instruction and firings. Payment is preferred in full at the beginning of the workshop.
