POTTERY CLASSES
Happy Fall Claymates!
Greetings from Bordeaux where we’re preparing to host a nine day immersive clay workshop here at Chateau Gigault in the Blayais, amongst the vineyards of Gironde in Southwest France.
Following last summer’s extreme heat, the ‘vendange’ or harvest came early, in fact the earliest ever and Chateau Gigault is abustle with the multiple steps involved with the vinification process of harvested grapes. The Handkerchief Factory and my Warren studio in particular may presently feel a world away but the November class schedule is being finalized and attached for your review and enrollment.
Of late I have been pondering small vessels, objects and ornaments with holiday gift giving in mind. For those who are new to clay this ‘hand made from the heart’ alternative might be the perfect opportunity to acquaint yourself with this medium in conjunction with all necessary support for a satisfying outcome.
Rather than our typical seven week period, our November/December offerings will run for six weeks to insure that all pieces are completed in time for Holiday gifting.
We will work from my light filled studio, Suite 111 at The Handkerchief Factory in Warren R.I. All skill levels are welcome from newbies to seasoned amateurs. The first four classes will focus on wet clay construction, pinching, coiling, slab work and draping. You will learn and employ various techniques using Indian textile blocks, traditional cookie cutting with attached decorative elements, and/or any individual approach you may have in mind. The last two classes will focus on glazing and firing.
We will be working with a low-fire cone 04 Terracotta reminiscent of the colors of the Southwest, as well as a mid-fire cone 6 white stoneware, both fitting for colorful underglazes and glazes.
In surrendering to the alluring process of wet clay construction, students will be encouraged to explore their preferences and comfort levels with the various hand building techniques presented. Learning these skills will be the backbone of facilitating your growth in creative clay expression.
Each individual experience and outcome will vary as students navigate this meditative process, as important as the final outcome while in community with like minded creatives.
I will be there shepherding each student to achieve their intended masterpiece.
All pieces will be fired before Christmas for holiday gifting.
Adult Classes
There will be three adult workshop offerings from which to choose:
Tuesday evenings, 6 to 9 pm, adults
Wednesday afternoons, 1 to 4 pm, adults
Thursday evenings, 6 to 9 pm, adults (FILLED)
Adult classes will be 3 hours long, beginning the week of November 1st, skipping the week of Thanksgiving from November 22nd to the 28th, resuming classes on Tuesday, December 1st. Spots will be reserved on a first come first serve basis, limited to ten participants. Feel free to forward this to potentially interested friends and family or consider offering this workshop as a gift replete with a gift certificate available for purchase from my studio.
Should there be a schedule conflict for adults on a given date, students are free to make up classes in other time slots.
Cost of 6 week adult workshop will be $360 a breakdown of $60 per class including all materials and firings.

Children’s class
Saturday mornings 10 to 11:15 am for children ages 7 and up.
Children’s 6 week workshop will be $222, a breakdown of $37 per class including all materials and firings. Payment is preferred in full at the beginning of the workshop. Accommodation can be made for those who would rather pay weekly. With limited slots available, responding promptly will increase your chances of securing a spot.
